When retiring to his bed every night, the Prophet (S) would hold his palms together, spit in them, recite the last three chapters of the Qur’aan and then wipe over his entire body as much as possible with his hands, beginning with his head and face and then all parts of the body, he would do this three times.’

 عن حديث عائشةَ «أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلام كان إذا أَوَى إلَى فِراشِهِ كل ليلةٍ جمع كَفيه ثم نفثَ فيهما فقرأَ فيهما {قل هو الله أحد } و {قل أعوذ برب الفلق } و {قل أعوذ برب الناس } ثم يمسحُ بهما ما استطاع من جَسَدِه، يَبدَأ بهما على رأسِهِ ووجهه وما أَقبَل من جسدَه، يفعل ذلك ثلاثَ مرَّات ». رواه البخاري
